Christina Aguilera tried to cover up her mistake by singing the rest of the song as best as she could causing the last note to be a little off on pitch. Such a tragic event could cause many Aguilera fans to stray away, also known as a change in consumer taste. This will decrease the demand for Christina's music unless she has true and loyal fans that stick by her side through all the pitches and mess ups. Music store managers may even make the decision to reduce their prices in Christina's previous cd's. Many fans may even substitute her music for another pop star, like Britney Spears.

How could this eventually affect the music industry as a whole?
I think this will only effect the pop portion of the music industry. This artist has no real relation to any other part of music except for pop. I think the music industry may see a slight downturn here in the next few months, but nothing major. My question to Taylor is, do you think this will truly effect the rest of her career?
I really don't think this will have any affect on the music industry on the whole and very little affect on her career. It may actually help her popularity because so many people are talking about her. For example, I had not thought about her in quite a while and at least now she is in the news. Also her flub was not that unusual since unfortunately the National Anthem is botched all too often.
I don't think this will have any big effect on her career either way. She's definitely getting more buzz, but it's because she made a dumb mistake. That does put her into some people's minds and may slightly increase the sale of her music and products. But it also might make other people think less of her intelligence or maybe even her as a person, just because people are so quick to judge. Those people may turn away from her and balance out the bit of buzz this created. Or, you know, maybe nobody noticed. It was only the Super Bowl.
I agree with Kern completely. I think this will help her career. I had totally forgotten that she was even alive until the Super Bowl. She might not be receiving the best attention, but she's getting some kind of attetnion. It had been a long time since she had done a public performance, and at least this put her name back out in the news.
I agree with Kern and Curt. I also thought she had faded from the music world. Although it's mostly negative attention she's getting it at least puts her on the map again. If anything it at least isn't going to affect the music industry.
At the end of the day, Christina Aguilera is an amazing singer. Although she did mess up the lyrics on the biggest stage of her life, mistakes like this happen all the time. Yes, she looked stupid, but there is no way she is going to lose fans over this blunder. Brittany Spears can't sing. Christina Aguilera can and will continue to impact the music industry in a positive manor in the future.
It may not affect her business career, but she hasn't been around much lately. Yes, she has received a lot of buzz about her, but will negative comments not hurt her at all? It definitely won't hurt the music industry as a whole since there are so many artists and even new ones found every day.
I don't think this will affect Aguilera's music sales at all. We've seen Brittany Spears shave her head, Micheal Jackson hold his baby over a balcony railing several stories high, and Justin Timberlake expose Janet Jackson to the world on the Superbowl stage. These stars still have unbelievable revenue from their music, movies, and other media products. Christina Aguilera now lives with the fact that she did mess up our National Anthem and the public will always remember this, but she will still continue to make millions.
Zach has a very good point. Even though she messed up the National Anthem, she is still talented and is still going to make money. She has now been on peoples' minds since the incident,especially those who haven't been thinking about her. Many loyal fans who watched her at the Superbowl, also watched her in her recent movie, 'Burlesque' which made plenty of money in the box office. Though she is getting all this negative attention, Christina Aguilera is making money from this attention regardless, which is great for her. Since people who may have forgotten about her, have been thinking about her now, they might be looking at her music on iTunes, and just the the attention could help her music sales.
While Christina Aguilera may prove to be a diva in essence, botching the national anthem in an all too self-indulgent version to begin with, she is still getting an incredulous amount of media attention, whether it be negative or positive. Some may argue that she's getting more than she would if she had nailed the national anthem. I do understand your argument when you say that this event could lead to a decrease in sales and drop in fans for Christina and her music, but I would like to argue that it could go both ways. The attention she is getting in the media could spark an increase in revenue through CD's sold, thus raising the demand for Christina's music. Either way, the media attention is definitely going to have somewhat of an effect on profit, whether it be negatively or positively. Even if it is not significant enough to affect the music industry as a whole, it will at least affect Christina.
