10 years later

Ten years ago today on 9/11/01 our country was attacked by people who did not believe in the freedoms that Americans enjoy. It forever changed the way the world traveled, it increased the tensions between us and middle eastern oil companies, and finally it sent our country in to debt by causing our national defense spending to shoot off the charts. But is it fair to say that the terrorists won by causing horror and economic disaster on our country? Heavens no!

http://www.gobankingrates.com/ten-years-after-economic-impacts-9-11/

The terrorists lost because they didn't stop us from doing what we wanted. One of the many things Osama Bin Laden hated about our country is how Americans are greedy (I prefer pursuit of happiness). Guess what? Donald Trump down the street from the twin towers still lived in his cozy tower trying to find somebody he can mentor by humiliating him/her on national television for many years. Speaking of buildings how about that 1.2 billion $ Spaceship that the Dallas cowboys play in? Jerry wanted America's team to have the best didn't he? Hold up now... Let's not forget how the NFL still played on opening day five days after the attacks on the world trade center and how the military flew jets over the stadiums while the national anthems were being played. Our economy's mindset hasn't changed and I still have faith in it.

Now being an ambitious young man who lives in America I plan on supporting our country's way of life by working towards the pursuit of happiness. In fact I'm willing to pay my taxes on military spending debt because I know those people who died in the attacks would do the same for me knowing it would defend the freedoms that everybody should be born with. Osama Bin Laden once said "We love death. The U.S. loves life. That is the difference between us two." The real difference between us two is I can choose the diamond while you can only take the water. How's that for paradox value?

God Bless America!

I still remember being pulled out of my second grade class to go home. I sat on the couch while my dad hovered around the TV as we watched the footage of the planes crashing into the towers. I knew something bad had happened from the reactions of those around me, but I didn't quite understand the severity of the situation. As the 10 years passed I slowly learned more and more about the repercussions of 9/11. I honestly don't remember the time before we went to war. In those 10 years I have learned of the impact 9/11 had on our country, outside of our emotions. I understand more about why we are in such debt from our overseas spending. The act of terror committed on 9/11/01 was meant to tear our country apart, but as President Bush said in his address to the people that day, "Terror will not win!" and it hasn't. Our country came together as one. It didn't matter what gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or class they were. Everyone stood together, and we will continue to stand together. May we always remember.

On the day of September 11, 2001, I was never told of the twin towers in New York being attacked. All I was told was that something had happened somewhere else, and was told no more. As the years went by, I finally understood what really happened on that terrible day. David, you make a very good point that our country has a perfectly good reason for having tension. Osama Bin Laden, the man supposedly responsible for the 9/11 attacks, is the main reason of this problem. However, our country doesn't spend its time hating terrorists, but rather concentrating on remembering the brave individuals on the day that America came under attack. It just goes to show that in the world today, America is still standing strong, and will continue to stay strong until the end of time.

After reading and understanding the information given, I agree that America is a very remarkable and amazing place to live. What makes America great is our spirit to overcome adversity. Tragedies, like 9/11 was intended to destroy democracy and free markets. Considering what happened on 9/11, the economy didn’t fail to grow at a rapid rate from 2002 to 2007. George Bush’s policies, which included lower tax rates for individuals and businesses, stimulated investment. Even though Osama Bin Laden’s goal was to destroy the American economy and the western way of life, the opposite happened. The American military was sent over seas to Iraq and Afghanistan to fight terror and radicle Islam. Over the last ten years, there has not been one drastic attack on the United States; there have been attempts, but not one has come close to even comparing with the tragedy of 9/11. Reflecting over the past ten years, Osama Bin Laden is dead, troops are being sent home and over all, American is still a desirable place to live.

Thank you for commenting on my post. America has stood stood strong and tall since that day! I'm glad that all of you believe that we did the right thing by standing up for our way of life by fighting terrorism regardless of our debt from over seas.

God Bless America! I definitely agree with your point of view on this delicate topic. I feel that the US is the greatest country on earth, and that tragedies like 9/11 and all of the wars we have been involved with are symbols of our perseverance and strength. If you think about it, the US is the most economically resilient country ever to exist, with barely any massive economic scares, even after such tragedies. I feel that when you talked about how the US continues to power forward in the same fashion they did before 9/11, this is just one of the many ways we bounce back and show the world it will take more than war to stop our great country. Our military has many incentives to keep fighting and never give up, and our peoples demand allows soldiers to continue their heroic work overseas. Bottom line is that the United States of America is and will always be the greatest country on earth.

Im pretty sure everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing on the September 11th.The way our country came together to support one and other, and how we took care of those who lost loved ones, is what defines our country. We are so much stronger then all the otehrs becasue of our mental and physical strength, the leaders of our country responded quickly and accuratly. Our perseverence is through-out thick and thin is what keeps our economy alive, we still prosper no matter what. Even after the biggest terrorist attack our country had ever seen, we continued to pursue our own happiness and that is why we prosper!
This has become more than traditon and it will be continued as we have proved time and time again, we will not change our ways by the actions from outside threats.

On the day of the attacks, I still remember getting pulled out of school by my parents and watching them sit in front of the tv watching the news. As years went by and I grew older, I became able to more intensely comprehend what had actually happened and how it affected our nation. I agree on how others, who don't have the luxury of freedom, see us as greedy and want nothing more than to have all we can get our hands on. I like how you put it and how it isn't greed but the pursuit of happiness. The American dream drives all to work to be our best and we are all given the opportunity to do so. I also agree with you in the way our nation has reacted to the attack. Even though this attack was meant to separate the nation, I believe it actually made us stronger as one. I feel as if it brought us together and made us appreciate what we have in our country and built a sense of national pride.

I definitely agree with your point that the terrorists did not prevail. In fact the saying, "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger" comes into play. The attacks on September 11th were tragic, but in the end helped improve our nations security. Not only has security such as firefighters and policemen upgraded, but also the people themselves have come together. Even though a tragedy like this is the last thing anyone would want, it unites a country for a specific cause. I hope no more terrorist attacks are made toward America and that progress can be made in the war on terror.
