ESPN has reported and confirmed that the Detroit Tigers have signed Prince Fielder to come play. This was a great opportunity cost for the Tigers because of the competition they have at first base. Cabrera is the other premier first baseman that the tigers have. Both have similar numbers and build. These types of first baseman are rare but why would you need to on the same team? Also fielders contract is huge. Fielders is the fourth 200 million dollar contract in baseball history. But why would you pay someone 200 million dollars to sit on the bench half of the time? Fielder and Cabrera most likely can not play another position because of their size and weight. On the other hand the attendance for each game would go up which would help the club raise money for other free agents. Fielder would also help create run support for the weaker end of there pitching staff. So I'm asking you was it worth it for Detroit to sign prince Fielder.

I never thought about the Tigers having both Fielder and Cabrera. What is the advantage of having both of them? How will this insane contract trickle down and affect the fan base?
The advantage to having both fielder and Cabrera is that they play in the American league. Since there is a DH in the AL this would allow both to be in the lineup. If you have both back to back in the lineup it is not worth to walk one to get to the other. The contract is huge and this is causing high expectations form fans. The fans will be expecting him to produce big numbers for the club and there fans would to want to come see him play. This would increase attendance at games and increase the revenue form jersey sales.
Well just from a Rangers fan point of view, I don't think that he should've gone to Detroit. But also from a financial stand point, the idea doesn't seem as solid as they want it to be. Miguel Cabrera was the one batter that tore Rangers pitchers apart in the ALDS. So why would they think of replacing him? He can't play another position. And he looks like a mean dude that would not be happy with DH-ing. And neither is Prince Fielder. He's coming from a club where he was the star at first base and at the plate, and now he's with a team where he'll have to share his position with another big bat in the line up. I don't think the choice was a good one on Fielder's part. In my opinion his only goal was getting more dough, while Detroit's was to just put another big name (and guy) in their line up. We'll see how this works out. Baseball egos can get a little out of hand. And now Detroit has two of them. I don't think the Tigers' organization has enough room for two heads that size...
