iPad 2

The iPad has now been outdated. This was very quick considering the original came out not too long ago. The iPad 2 has many more advances. But what does this mean to the price and the expectations to the new iPad? The original had shocked people with the capabilities it had and now there are more with the iPad 2. The price is the same as the first and there could be many reasons why. One reason could be the degredation of the dollar within just the past year. The economy has gone into a recession and that is the backing of the American dollar.

It is kind of shocking that the iPad 2 is the same price as the original iPad because of the recent raise in gas prices. It is a common trend for other prices to rise as gas does but this is not the case. The question now is simply, why? Everything else right now in the economy is inflated except for this technological advance. Maybe this is a sign for a turn around in the economy since technology is one of the main drives for a successful economy.

The price is likely the same as it looks good to the customer. Although the new version would undoubtedly sell at a higher price with such a great demand for Apple products, keeping the price low makes the company look good. If the price is lower, more people can buy the product, which means more people to spend money on the countless apps and side products that go along with the iPad.

You bring up a good point, why doesn't apple increase the price for the iPad2? Apple in the past when looking at lets say the iPhone always has a constant price for new products. The iPhones price has relatively stayed the same from the first iPhone to the iPhone4. Apple probably wanted to maintain this look from its other products on to this newer product line.

I agree with Joey I think that Apple wanted to keep on consumers good side by having the price stay the same. I also think that they kept the price the same because they aren't yet sure how popular the new Android tablets will be since the first one just came out this past month. Because of the competition they are almost forced to keep the prices the same.

I agree with all of you. I also think that Apple has other competitors now and fears that they will top them. Although Apple is a superior brand and makes higher quality products, I think that has something to do with it. So I go with what Ethan says and he makes a very good point.

My immediate thought, was that Apple kept the price the same because of the other tablets coming out. They now have competition, even though people do love the brand name, Apple, some just can't afford a higher priced tablet. So instead of decreasing or raising the price, they kept it the same. It keeps their customers around, and does not anger them, it looks fair. This way they won't be losing any customers to the other brands.

I agree with Lindsay's theory on why Apple kept the prices the same. I also add the though that they might have kept the prices the same because the demand wasn't as high as the first Ipad's demand. The thought of consumer's attitude and income is going to keep these people around when new Apple products come out.

Lindsay is on the right track, there are a lot of other tablets coming out that are less expensive and also have the newly popular Android operating system. These tablets are in high demand and as more and more come out Apple’s competition increases. As a result, Apple will maintain a relatively low price for their new iPad to keep consumers from buying the copy-cat new tablets.

Keeping the iPad prices at a level place is a smart move by Apple. As the price on gasoline rises the prices for necessity items may rise but for Apple products which could be categorized as luxury items the prices should stay the way they are to remain gaining a profit in sales. If the gas prices rise and the iPad prices rise who would want an iPad? Apple knows how to play the market and keeping the price where it was is a great move.

I think now that iPad2 is out, they should lower the price for the original iPad since it is now old technology. This would help people who could never otherwise afford an iPad have some of the advances in technology even if it is not the newest. They should not be the same price. That makes no sense.

We are begginning to walk the fine line of too much technology. It took this country 60 years for evryone to get a car 20 years for everyone to get a tv, 5 for everyone to get a cell phone and now a matter of months to change generations of that cell phone. We are quickly outworking ourselves. Soon technology will become so widespread it could take a matter of hours for a particular version of something to become outdated
